Music therapy can be accessed through Public Health Care, by a private doctor, or by contacting the therapist directly. The initiation of therapy usually requires a doctor’s referral. In the case of special medical care, the client’s therapeutic costs are mainly nominal. On the private side, the payer of the therapy service can be, for example, the Social Office, a Mental Health Office, a Family Counselor Office or an Insurance Company.

Kela (Sosial Insurance Institution of Finland) compensates costs for music therapy as a demanding medical rehabilitation and psychotherapeutic rehabilitation for young people aged 16-25.
