Goals
My work as a Music Therapist is strongly anchored in the field of Psychotherapy. The relationship between the client and the therapist and the trust it creates is the basis for process-like therapeutic work. The aim of this process is to support the client’s mental and social development and his ability to function.
Music Therapy is implemented as a rehabilitation that supports the client’s participation and action in everyday situations. The goal is to improve and support e.g. the ability of a child or young person to study and to make progress in school. The therapy can be carried out, if necessary, in accordance with the rehabilitation decision, partly or entirely as home / school visits, and may include, if necessary, checking out visits.
The objectives of music therapy can be to support mental or physical well-being, to improve emotional and life control, so that the client is able to perform better and be more involved in everyday life. Individual goals are defined based on the skills, needs and quality of problems of the rehabilitee.
Music therapy can also support interaction skills, body perception, structuring one’s own activities and perceiving the environment, and focusing and maintaining attention.
Methods
In Music Therapy, the customer is not required to have musical skills. Music is an instrument of interaction, not the purpose itself. Using music also enables interaction with a client who has challenges to express his / her thoughts and feelings through verbal interaction.
The psychotherapeutic methods I use in my work in music therapy include: varying and evaluative music listening , conversation, producing sounds with own voice, naming emotions and working through playing, clinical improvisation, making music, painting with music, using games and playing with sound and visual world, music-image methods and musical interaction. Rhythmic instruments, stringed instruments, and wind instruments can help in the therapeutic interaction between the client and the therapist.
